Day Habilitation:
At the core of the center is the teaching of fundamental life skills. ACI offers a day habilitation program with a positive learning environment that allows for support, security and instruction of daily life skills in the classroom. At least two hours a week, our staff is dedicated to providing a one-on-one learning experience for each individual.
While one staff member is working one-on-one with the clients, group activities are planned by the other staff member in the classroom. We teach basic skills such as counting money, telling time, life-saving emergency concepts and even simple safety methods, like never opening your door for a stranger. Consumers who are able to learn more complex tasks such as money management skills work on these skills during their one on one time. Our facility provides lunch daily and monitors the client’s personal medication during this time. Thanks to funding from Medicaid, we are able to offer these services at zero cost to the individual or family.
Our clients thrive in both our day habilitation program and outside of the classroom because we encourage team work, kindness and socialization among peers and the community by providing various life experiences they might not otherwise obtain. We strive to make learning a fun and engaging process. At least once a quarter, we take our consumers on field trips such as; fishing, bowling, corn mazes, petting zoos, going to the movies and monthly library trips! Plus, our clients are taken into the community weekly for learning experiences like shopping for supplies, groceries and cashing their pay checks at the local bank.
