Public notice is hereby given this 30th day of March, 2018 that The Arkansas Center for Independence, Inc. of 8149 Curtner Dr., PO Box 785, Newport, AR 72112 has made application for funds through Section 49 U.S.C. Section 5310 for the purchase of the following types of passenger transportation vehicles: Minivan with Ramp and Minivan without ramp This vehicle will be used primarily for the following purposes: transportation of individuals with developmental disabilities enrolled in Arkansas Center for Independence’s day program or residing in one of ACI’s group homes. Purchase of the above vehicle is considered essential to the efficient operation of this organization in provision of public transportation services to seniors and individuals with disabilities. There is no intent to infringe upon, or compete with, existing public or private transit operators, including Section 5307, urban public transit operators and Section 5311, rural public transit operators. Arkansas Center for Independence is requesting one vehicle that is not compliant with the Americans with Disabilities Act. However, Arkansas Center for Independence does meet the “equivalency of service” requirements to individuals with disabilities in the community. Any objection should be submitted in writing only to persons listed below. All comments will become a part of this organization’s application and will be a matter of public record. All written comments must be submitted within 30 days of the date of this notice. More Old Treasures is a thrift store locally owned and operated by the non-profit organization, Arkansas Center for Independence (ACI). The store is located at 1019 Malcolm Avenue in Newport, across from O’Reilly’s Auto Parts. More Old Treasures is stocked with assortments of name brand clothing, shoes, accessories, jewelry, books, home décor, furniture and so much more. All merchandise in the store has been generously donated by the community. All sales go to support ACI in order to assist the non-profit organization in achieving its goals of providing services and employment to adults with developmental disabilities.
